Course Objectives This course will provide the students with basic information about general chemistry, teaching the properties of the chemicals used in the conservation and restoration of historical buildings, and acquiring the relevant qualifications to get the information gap between chemistry and conservation application.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • will be able to explain the concept of organic chemistry.
  • will be able to describe the chemical properties of inorganic / organic materials used in architectural conservation and restoration.
  • will be able to describe the physical and chemical properties of traditional building materials.
  • will be able to prepare acid base solutions
  • will be able to classify substances and properties.
Course Description General information about matter and properties, atomic structure and periodic table, elements, ions and compounds, chemical bonds, chemical reactions, equilibrium of solubilisers, chemical calculations, acids and bases and application of this knowledge to architectural restoration will be transferred to the students.
