'Software and design' camp for 40 students

The "Software and Design Camp", held by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School in cooperation with Kuika-Turkey's leading software development platform- has changed the life of freshman Uygar Tanım Somuncu. Attracting the attention of Kuika officials with his talent in coding and design at the 5-day camp, Somuncu was hired at the age of 19. Somuncu, who had the opportunity to get a job in an internationally operating company before graduating, said, “I am very happy and excited. I am aware that this is an important opportunity for my future goals. I'll work harder from now on and I won't disappoint the people who trusted me.” Somuncu will develop applications for computers, tablets, and mobile devices in Kuika.

IUE Vocational School organized the second of the "Software and Design Camp", which was held for the first time in March of last year, between 8-12 March. Experts from Kuika, which has offices in Seattle, San Francisco, Istanbul, and Izmir, trained 40 students studying Computer Programming and Graphic Design at Izmir University of Economics.

CERTIFICATE FOR ALL STUDENTS

IUE students were informed in detail about "general design concepts", "interface design", "application development" throughout the camp. On the last day of the camp, they were given homework to apply what they learned. While the successful students in the camp were entitled to receive certificates, the top 3 students were also given internship opportunities. Nevertheless, Uygar Tanım Somuncu, who attracted the attention of company officials with his projects and ideas throughout the camp, was hired by Kuika. Computer Programming first year student Emir Enes Karakoyun and Graphic Design first year student Simay Horasanlı were entitled to perform an internship in Kuika during the summer semester.

I WAS SURPRISED AND VERY HAPPY

Stating that he was very happy to be hired at the end of the camp, Somuncu said, “Ever since I was young, I have been interested in technology and innovations in this field. Although I am a freshman, I improved myself in the field of coding with the support of my professors. I thought the camp would make a positive contribution to my development in this field, but getting a job was a little surprising for me. I am studying in my favorite department; at a university I love. I consider myself talented in this field and I am working hard. I believe all this has positive impact on my success. My education continues, so I will work part time in Kuika for now. I will be developing applications for computers, tablets, and mobile devices. My goal for the future is to stay in my country and work in global projects in the field of software.”

QUALITY OF OUR UNIVERSITY PROVEN

Lecturer Emre Küheylan, Vice Director of IUE Vocational School, said that IUE initiated the ‘Capmus Izmir’ model, the first model of university-city integration in Turkey, and in this way, collaborations with many companies have been made to offer new opportunities to students. Stating that the cooperation with Kuika is one of the best examples of this,  Küheylan said, “The purpose of our sectoral cooperation with Kuika was to enable our students to gain new professional opportunities and get to know the business world. I think we achieved this in the best way possible. Our students learned the applications on the Kuika platform and produced original projects. Not only 3, but all our students made us proud with their knowledge, ideas, and projects. They displayed the quality of our university and departments. The camp has become an achievement for all our students. As Vocational School, we will continue to work and develop cooperation to create new opportunities for our students.”
