IUE student Burçak became the queen of gymnastics
Burçak Şenman, a student at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), who started gymnastics at the age of 3 and successfully won 40 medals, came first in the international Queen Cup hosted by Hong Kong. Competing in the 'senior' category in rhythmic gymnastics, Şenman, nicknamed the 'elastic girl' by her friends, won the first place among 42 athletes, and won the cup, as well as the special crown that means the queen of gymnastics.
Burçak Şenman (19), a student of IUE Vocational School Applied English and Translation Program, living in Güzelbahçe, Izmir, started gymnastics in Manisa. Şenman, who regularly went to the gym and participated in the training in the nursery age, became even more attached to gymnastics. Şenman, who has been practicing in Izmir since the age of 7 with her family moving there, also attracted the attention of her trainers with her talent.
GOT IN THE NATIONAL TEAM AT THE AGE OF 11
Şenman, who regularly practices in a private sports club, was proud to join the National Team at the age of 11. Collecting awards repeatedly in competitions throughout Turkey since middle school, Şenman climbed the ladder of success quickly. Şenman, who ranked first place with the National Team in Aerobic Gymnastics Aquae Les Bains World Cup held in France in 2016, became a champion in 2019 in Turkey. Performing her skills both in rhythmic and aerobic gymnastics, Şenman is also the winner of the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Online Championship.
GREAT MOTIVATION
Şenman, who carried her success in sports to her education life, won the first place in the Queens Cup, which she competed on behalf of Izmir University of Economics, organized online due to the pandemic. Şenman, who came to the campus with her trophy and crown, said, “The Queens Cup is the last competition of this year. It is an important organization where the queens of rhythmic gymnastics are chosen. I represented both my country and my university in this competition. It was my dream to rank first, and I achieved it. I am very happy. It is a great motivation to finish the year with a trophy.”
I PRACTICE 6-7 HOURS A DAY
Şenman continued as follows: “The Queens Cup will be held face-to-face next year. Thanks to my ranking, I was also specially invited to next year's competition I feel very good and fit. I can manage education and sports together. I act with a plan, and my professors also help me. I work 6-7 hours every day. In the remaining time, I focus on my studies. I haven't made a definite decision about my future planning now. But gymnastics has now become a part of my life. I have the feeling that I will not be able to break away from gymnastics in later years. I can improve myself in my field of education, but gymnastics will also be part of my life.”
