Lord of the medals
Emre Sakcı, the national swimmer with a world record and a student at Izmir University of Economics (IEU), brought another medal to our country by securing third place in the European Short Course Swimming Championships held in Romania. Sakcı became the third in Europe with his time of 25.90 seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke, bringing great pride and joy to our country. Sakcı had previously set the ‘World Short Course’ record with a time of 24.95 in the same distance.
A student of the Applied English Translation Program at IEU Vocational School, and our national pride, Emre Sakcı brought the first medal to our country in the 50-meter breaststroke at the 2019 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Scotland.
THRIVING ON SUCCESS
Sakcı, who also broke three European records in the International Swimming League in Hungary, represented our country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Achieving challenging international successes at a young age, Sakcı added a world record to his career. In December 2021, at the Turkey Şehitkamil Arena Interclub Short Course Youth and Open Age Swimming Championship held in Gaziantep, Sakcı finished first in the men's 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 24.95, becoming the owner of the world record. Our national pride Sakcı, most recently, also became the third in Europe at the European Short Course Swimming Championships held in Otopeni, Romania.
OLYMPICS UP NEXT
Stating that he is very happy to win a medal for his country, Emre Sakcı said, “I have competed with highly ambitious swimmers who achieved many successes throughout Europe. My goal coming to Romania was to stand on the winners’ podium, and I am proud to have achieved that, not letting down those who believed in me. The goal for an athlete never ends. I am always working to achieve better and the best. I must keep myself constantly fit and ready. I have a long career ahead of me, and there are many more medals to be won. The most important of these is the Olympics to be held in Paris this summer. My biggest goal is to win an Olympic medal and bring a historic achievement to our country. I feel the power to make this a reality within myself. I thank everyone who has not withheld their support from me.”
