Course Objectives The objective of this course, which is the first step of A1 level in the scope of Common European Framework of Reference, is to make students gain listening-reading-speaking and writing skills through common daily phrases and simple and plain sentences.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students will be able to follow simple questions about themselves, people who introduce themselves or others, their professions and workplace, expressions used in restaurant and bar orders, simple dialogues regarding hobbies and leisure activities, dates as in days, months, and years when spoken slowly and clearly to them.
  • Students will be able to analyze short and simple texts about professions, origins, personal interests and preferences, short and simple messages in postcards and e-mails, a simple menu, and simple sentences in announcements.
  • Students will be able to interact on a range of subjects referring to age, profession, hobbies, leisure activities, time, personal interests and preferences and with people at bars, restaurants, and hotels.
  • Students will be able to use simple and stereotyped phrases and sentences when introducing themselves or others, providing personal information about themselves, ordering food and drinks at a restaurant or bar, asking for the bill, talking about how they spent their weekend, explaining things they like or dislike doing, and stating issues and concerns encountered during stay at a hotel.
  • Students will be able to produce a short postcard for their friends by inserting their personal information (name, address, nationality, age, etc.) and a short texts where they can describe themselves or others.
Course Description The course is designed to prepare students for expressing topics such as introducing themselves or others, ordering, leisure activities, making a hotel reservation and expressing concerns encountered.
